Digital Schoolhouse is a not-for-profit transforming Computing education through play.
We are powered by Ukie, together with Nintendo.

We deliver free computing resources and workshops to schools nationwide, embedding digital creativity into the heart of teaching. We also run the UK’s largest schools’ esports tournament, encouraging wider participation in computing and computer science.

We ensure that every child is equipped with the career-ready skills, creative confidence and computational thinking they need to thrive in today’s fast-moving digital world.

Help us change lives

Our Story

Shahneila Saeed, Programme Director of Digital Schoolhouse:

“Frustrated by the dry, rote-learning methods of traditional teaching, and inspired by the work of Dr Tim Bell, I pioneered a play-based learning approach, using everyday objects to teach complex topics. I saw immediate understanding and retention in my students.

This success led me to lead Digital Schoolhouse, a programme by teachers, for teachers, with practical, play-based resources to foster digital creativity."

"My belief is simple: No student should be denied opportunities due to circumstances beyond their control.”

We have built a world-leading coalition of educators, academics and video games businesses with a shared commitment to changing lives for children and young people.

Working together, we are pioneering innovative approaches to education and learning based on three core pillars:

Transforming Education

We work with teachers and school leadership to open up new, high-impact approaches to teaching and learning based on:

  • Access to computer equipment and games
  • Resources to embed play-based learning into the Curriculum
  • Playful computing activities designed to bring Computer Science to life
  • ‘Ingenuity Days’ for teachers and educator CPD

Unlocking digital Creativity

We work across the teaching profession and the video games and interactive entertainment industry to harness the potential for digital creativity:

  • Campaigning for a Digital Creativity GCSE
  • Demonstrating how creativity sits at the heart of digital skills
  • Embedding digital creativity as a central capability to harness the power of AI

Widening Participation through Esports

We have a proven track record in harnessing the power of grassroots Esports to widen participation for young people who may not engage in traditional education and learning. We do this through:
  • The UK’s leading youth Esports tournament, delivered in partnership with schools and colleges across the UK
  • Regular engagement with the publishers and developers of globally recognised video game franchises to showcase career opportunities
  • Promoting engagement in places with complex social and economic needs
