Our Lady's Grammar School

Our Lady’s was founded 135 years ago by the Sisters of Mercy and, during this time, we have built up strong links with the communities and primary schools of the city of Newry and the counties of Armagh and Down. In our current school population, we have pupils from over fifty local primary schools.

Our new IT block, the Russell building, opened in Easter 2021. We wanted to use this fantastic new facility to engage with our local primary schools by delivering coding workshops, with the aim of developing computational thinking skills to children, while upskilling teachers to enable them to deliver these workshops in-house.

With this in mind, Our Lady's Grammar School became an official Digital Schoolhouse in 2022 and began delivering workshops to P6 classes from two of our closest primary schools, St Joseph's Convent and St Patrick's. Our current model of delivery involves each P6 class (four in total) visiting Our Lady's every Tuesday in turn, for an hour-long session.
