Leeds Central Library

Leeds Libraries is partnering with Digital Schoolhouse as one of the pilot library services for the Digital Schoolhouse initiative. We have 34 public libraries across the city catering to people from all walks of life. We use our unique position as a safe, trusted space within our communities to engage people with culture, information, health and wellbeing, digital, literacy, and much more.

We have been running Digital Schoolhouse workshops since Summer '22, as part of our Healthy Holidays scheme which is mainly focused in the more deprived parts of our city, and at our 4 code clubs that engage young people aged 9 and up with the computing curriculum. We recently ran a day workshop with a local secondary school where we invited industry professionals from TT Studios in Manchester and a local graphic design artist to speak to the class about their experiences of the video games industry. The class then designed their own games from scratch and pitched their ideas to the professionals who provided feedback.

We run regular after school esports groups at our libraries around the city and aim to run inter-library competitions during the Summer holidays.

We are always open to engaging with schools in all our communities, and can host workshops at the majority of our libraries. For more information please contact Liam.Garnett@Leeds.gov.uk.
