Digital Schoolhouse is constantly innovating to help and support members of our community. Discover what we've been up to.
The beginning of the summer term has been something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time (not just because it’s a short one!). This half term marks the official beginning of our school’s partnership with a school in Nepal, just outside Kathmandu. Following a link made through Connecting Classrooms of the British Council and a successful grant proposal, myself and a colleague will be venturing off to South Asia to visit our new partners and begin to plan a unique project together.
It's been over two weeks since the blast that was the DSH esports grand final, and we couldn't have hoped for a better end to this epic journey! Over the course of the last 7 months, students, teachers, and industry professionals have contributed to make this tournament the biggest and best it's ever been.
We can't help feeling a little deflated now that all the action is over, so let's delve into some of the moments that made the tournament so memorable...
The highly anticipated grand finale of the Overwatch Digital Schoolhouse Esports tournament came to an explosive end yesterday at Gfinity’s London arena, as eight teams battled it out for the title of UK Esports Champions 2019.
March has been momenumental for Digital Schoolhouse! With a 55% increase in school & college participation on last year's esports tournament, there's been more talent, teachers, travelling and andrenalin than ever before... and it's still not over! Our team has also grown, as we welcomed brand new Esports Programme Manager, Mike. As we look forward to our Grand Final on 10 April at Gfinity's arena, we reflect back on our top 10 highlights from the tournament so far.
Throughout March we’ve been fully immersed in esports; travelling across the length and breadth of the country to host our knockouts before the grand finale event on 10 April. Still, we’re not the only ones who have been busy. Behind the scenes, a whole host of people have contributed to making this tournament the biggest and best yet.
This month, year 1 classes have been contacted by aliens! The aliens sent us a message explaining that they were coming to visit us very soon. They didn’t have photographs of themselves so they sent us some instructions so that we could draw them ourselves. Children listened carefully to the set of instructions and composed the alien portraits. Draw a square for a head. Add 4 round eyes. Add 8 wiggly legs. They were very excited to meet these weird and wonderful creatures!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Deliveries are rolling into the office and consequently, us DSH-ers are sat amongst a pile of boxes and packing peanuts… all in the name of esports. Each box is full of goodies for our Regional Qualifiers, and behold, all regional participants will be awarded with some pretty amazing prizes. In DSH style, it’s the taking part that counts in this competition, however our Regional Champs most certainly won’t go home unrewarded.
Digital Schoolhouse thrives on the passion and ingenuity of Lead Teachers in our Schoolhouses. Our success is a credit to their hard work, drive and ambition. Here’s how one school, The Coleshill School, first got involved with Digital Schoolhouse and how the programme benefits their wider community.
