Crazy Mazes: A parent’s guide to computing at home

Author: e.ashman

Following on from last week’s workshop, App in a Day, this week’s workshop in our Computing at home teaching series is  Crazy Mazes, a workshop that will teach your children how to create their own maze style game.

This workshop is perfect for children aged 7 -14 years.

Sign up for free here!

Part 1 of the workshop will introduce the concept of programming.

  • To begin, students will find out what a programmer does
  • Following this we will find out about the need for clear instructions through a series of unplugged activities (unplugged activities require no tech to take part)

Part 2 of the workshop will teach your child how to make a maze game using the game making software Construct 3.

Construct 3 is free and works in your internet browser so there is no need to download anything prior to the workshop.

As part of this we will learn how to:

  • Create characters
  • Design different levels for the game
  • Add events so that different characters interact with each other

I hope your little learners enjoy Crazy Mazes! please do get in touch with me at estelle@ukie.org.uk if you have any comments or feedback on the workshop and don't forget to check out all our past workshops, here.
